I don't rightly got a lot to say 'bout all of this. Largely cause even now in hindsight I don't understanda gorramn thing that has occurred.
'Bout a week ago I got back to the world, walking toward town I meet Lily, cept this time there's none of the usual, confusing but enlightening talk we usually engage in, this time she comes flat out and tells me she 'ended' a fella by the name of Gallagher. Can't says I knew him, cept to look at, but him an' Lily had some sort of relationship going on and she was right fond of him. Why she said she killed him I never did get a handle on... mind you when it comes to Lily that aint exactly a rare occurance for me.
Seems that they were fixing to lock her up for it, Mayor Kawanishi appointed a new deputy in General Parkin and he was running an investigation.
I might not have understood the why's and wherefores of the situation but I had a few thoughts on how it should work out my own self. Next time I saw Lily she was in the local gaol and if I'd my way she'd have spent no more than five minutes longer there, I was all set for kicking in the door and breaking her out, reckon we would have made it too but she refused to go... just kept repeating in her own way "Her did it."
By the time the trial hove into view there was all sorts of happenings related to the affiar spilling out of the colony an onto Blackburne. At one point a warning was issued that any ship with a Hale's Moon registry, or know to ooperate out of Hale's Moon would be shot down as soon as it entered range of the fixed guns on Blackburne.
I set down a way's out of town and on the walk in I saw her again and I don't admit to saying that as soon as my eyes lit upon her, sitting cross legged on the hills overlooking town, lost to her thoughts and her hair caught and tossed by the desert winds, that for a moment my mind wasn't focused on what might happen to Lily by day's end.
It's not that I can't describe the trial, I was there, hell I even stood to act as Lily's defense when it looked like the one she'd arranged wasn't going to show, it's just that the whole affair still makes me angry just to recall it. I'd had some words with Seana a few nights before hand and it was clear she was wrestling with the whole affair. Seeing her presiding over the affair I can only imagine what it was doing to her. As far as that lady goes, I admire her greatly but don't envy the tasks see faces.
Reckon I've seen my fair share of untoward occurances, but I doubt anyone could've guessed as to what would happen toward the end of the trial. The prosecutor revealed himself to be none other than the supposed victim, it was round about then that I found my legs carrying me back to the boat. Given the degree of unrest and pain this whole thing has caused a great many folk, unduly, I figure I did well enough not to open the small arms locker and give folk cause for a real trial.
Still, Lily's free. I suppose that's the main thing.
